I tell stories that matter in creative and genuine ways based on data and strategic approaches. Organizations and people I’ve pitched for have landed articles in The New Yorker and The Boston Globe among others. In general, I aim to be a news source. In particular, my approach is threefold:
- A targeted pitch/story is almost always better than a generic press release.
- Your entire web presence is your press room.
- If you do want a press release, have informative and actionable content, especially your headline and sub-headline, and make sure you answer the question: “Why should anyone care?”
Here are select media work samples:
I pitched new results and policy implications on microcredit for MIT’s Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), and invited a targeted list of reporters to a joint World Bank event in Washington D.C. This landed more than 15 articles in top-tier media, including Moving Beyond Microcredit by Matt Mossman, The New Yorker (November 2, 2015), as well as articles in Nature, NPR, MIT News, The Boston Globe, ABC News, The Verge.
I coordinated a video segment for Bloomberg TV “The Great Disrupters: Businessweek Anniversary” (at 23:18 minutes) featuring J-PAL’s approach to development economics, which was named one of Bloomberg Businessweek’s most disruptive ideas from the past 85 years. (December 9, 2014)
At Vinfen, a leading human services provider, I worked with families, supporters, and colleagues at all levels, and with the Department of Health and Human Services and advocacy groups to raise awareness, understanding, and support for people with disabilities and the people who work tirelessly with them. I implemented a new media relations plan that led to a two-fold increase in regional coverage and landed on the cover of the Boston Globe and on Channel 5’s Chronicle.
